Why use Metal Mesh?
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is very important in many fields. For example, when we fly on an
airplane, passengers will be asked to turn off mobile phones and electronic devices. This is to prevent
interference to communication and electronic equipment. In some medical surgery devices,
transportation, and industrial applications, the interference risk between devices may also be a critical
issue. Any electromagnetic interference can cause serious safety problems.
AMT Metal Mesh
Based on our accumulated experience, AMT provides a touch panel with a metal mesh film design.
Traditional mesh application entails laminating metal mesh between two pieces of glass to fix the shape of
the mesh. Then this is laminated onto the touch panel. This design has a poor light transmission rate
of approximately 60% on the finished touch panel and makes the displayed image noticeably darker.
AMT utilizes a metal mesh film design where a metal mesh grid is plated onto PET film. No additional
glass laminate is required. The final product will be lighter and possess a higher, 82% light transmission
rate. The plane resistance of the mesh film material is 0.25Ω /□. Grounding with copper tape will
achieve a very good electromagnetic shielding effect.
The AMT Advantage
Although some manufacturers are able to use metal mesh film in their PCAP touch panels, the metal mesh
will affect the sensor signal of their panels. Except for AMT, no touch panel manufacturer develops
touch controllers, so they cannot adjust the touch controller to control for the signal effect of metal mesh
film. These manufacturers still need to add glass to reduce the signal effect from metal mesh. Therefore,
even if they use metal mesh film, their final product will be heavier. AMT is the only touch solution
company in the world that manufactures both proprietary touch panels and proprietary touch controllers.

The mechanical design of the AMT PCAP + metal mesh film product with suitable integration and firmware
adjustment has pass DO-160 electromagnetic emission certification performed by a third party laboratory.
FAA regulations require all devices installed on business aircraft pass DO-160 certification.
